The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination shared the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. The reveal happened in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that focused exclusively on the forthcoming animated feature.
The sequel to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will send Mario to the outer limits of the cosmos. Along the way, he discovers a new princess and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
In the vein of the Wii-era games that provide its foundation, Mario will venture away from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. On his epic voyage, he will meet again some recognizable characters, such as the Luma, a popular character from the original cinematic release.
However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Worth mentioning, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also includes nods to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The feature will welcome back of the initial voice actors, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is planned to debut around the time of the four-decade milestone of the original Super Mario Bros. game. In addition to the movie, 2026 promises to be a important time for Mario and his allies.
The company has three new games officially announced for that year, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
